| FAQ Q: How much are your puppies? A: Females are $300 and males are $250.
Q: Will the puppies have their shots? A: Yes, all puppies will have their first set of shots before going to their new homes. They will also have a full exam and will be dewormed. We will give you their itemized shot records, for you to give to your veterinarian.
Q: Are they AKC registered? A: Yes, all puppies are AKC registered. You will receive the paperwork the same day as you buy your little puppy, a long with a starter kit.
Q: Are both parents on site? A: Yes, both Milo and Lilah will always be on our property.
Q: Can I come by to visit the puppies? A: We would love to have you over, just contact us and we will set up a time that's convientant for both of us. However, we ask that you wait till after the puppies are 4 weeks old, as they cannot be held or seperated from their mother.
Q: When will the puppies be ready? A: Around the age of 6-7 weeks old. It's usually when they are eating on their own and are fully weaned from their mother.
Q: What's the best way of contacting you? A: Always through email, however if you feel more comfortable to speaking with us in person, please send us an email and we will be happy to call you.
Q: Why do girls cost more than boys? A: A female dog is worth more but only for future breeding, as she is the one who can have the puppies.
If you are interested in having puppies with your dog, you should look to get a female. Otherwise, a male will do just fine. The only other reason to get one sex or another if it isn't about breeding, is compatibility with another dog. There could be a dominance issue (with 2 males or females fighting for being the "top dog"), or you just want to avoid getting puppies, without spaying or neutering.
Q: What Vetranarian do you use? A: We use the "Small Clinic of Fork Union". After you purchase your puppy, we can give you their number and access to their health records, in case you have any questions.
Q: When will they need their second set of shots? A: We will provide you wih their current shot and exam record. Their first set of shots are given to them at 6 weeks of age, right around the time they go home to their new owner. The second set of shots are usually adminisered 3 weeks after their first.
Q: How much is your deposit? A: We accept $50 deposits and it goes toward your puppy payment.
Q: What if I change my mind, can I have my deposit back? A: Yes, of course. Also keep in mind, that this isn't a seperate fee. Your $50 goes towards your final puppy payment.
Q: What payments do you accept? A: We accept money orders, cash and/or checks. However if your check does bounce, you will need to pay for penality fees. We also accept paypal too!
Q: Why are the dogs priced at this much? A: For the time and money we spend to care, feed and medically treat each puppy, including the mother, it can be very time consuming as well as costly. We have nine puppies to feed, bath, provide clean housing and also medically treat (exams, medicine, shots), it adds up to a lot of money. More than most expect, sometimes with these prices, we can barely break even. We also register each puppy with AKC as well. You are paying for a healthy, purebred puppy.
Q: How can I register my puppies with AKC? A: We will provide you with the registration papers. You can easily apply online (which is cheaper) or through mail. The prices vary, depending on what AKC package you choose.
Q: Are the papers "limited registration"? A: No. We give over full registration to the owners. For those who are unfamiliar, there are two different types of registration. Limited AKC registration means that the puppy cannot be in a show in AKC Conformation events, and it's offspring can NOT be registerd with AKC. AKC full registration means that the puppy can be shown in the AKC Conformation events and that it's offspring CAN be registered with AKC. We do not do limitied registration. Q: Can I visit my puppy before he/she is ready to come home? A: As long as the puppy is 4 weeks old, you can always set up a time to come by and visit. We would love to have you over, as we want the puppy to get to know you better. In the past, we've had owners come over once a week to visit their puppy, before they could take him/her home.
Q: I can't pick up my puppy when he/she is ready to come home. Can I leave him him/her with you till I can? A: We will keep the puppy with us, only till he/she is 9 weeks old. If you are unable to pay or house him at that time, we will refund you the remaining money and find him a new home. It wouldn't be fair for the puppy or for us, to keep him longer than 9 weeks.
Q: Can I send back the puppy for a refund, if I change my mind? A: Only if the puppy is younger than 9 weeks. If not, all sales are final.
Q: I have younger children, will this be an issue with a new puppy? A: A new puppy requires a lot of attention, training and devotion/protection. Golden Retrivers have a proven track record as the least likely breed to attack their owners. However, all puppies have a chance to retaliate if a child (sometimes unknowingly) harms them. This is especially true at a younger age when the puppy is small and fragile. All in all, golden retrievers make great family pets.
Q: Are the puppies rasied around children? A: Yes, but supervised. This is very important to us. Since dogs live in a human world, it's important for them to deal well with people of all ages. Early postive exposure to children, with praise or rewards, for good behavior will help the puppy grow up to become a well-behaved dog. It's important for us to teach the puppy to be comfortable with people and to behave him/herself around them. Behavior that seems cute in a puppy, such as nipping and jumping, is no longer cute when the dog is a 70 lb adult! Whatever you don't your dog to do as an adult, should not be allowed as a puppy. Golden Retrievers have a really great temperment, so they do naturally well with children.
Q: What is the personality of a Golden Retriever? A: Not only do they have a beauiful outward appearance but a wonderful personality and temperment. These dogs are extremely intelligent, patient , and seeminly a little intuitive as well as sensing their owner's mood and responding accordingly. Goldens are rather gentle for their size and do well with children who know the proper way to treat animals. They are also eager to please, which helps them to train easier than most. They do require a lot of exercise and a fenced yard is ideal.
